The Get Go

Jumpsuits…Elvis was onto something…

It’s time to get ready for an evening out… I’m thinking after a day at the beach and that summer lovin’ vibe is in the air, all you want to slip into is a simple but sexy, comfy outfit. Right now I’m loving the jumpsuit revolution that’s quietly seeping into stores. OK, so I’m not really suggesting Elvis’ style is what we should be channeling, but he was certainly onto something. Though The King’s style of jumpsuit is definitely not what we need to be donning at the beachside bar, did you know he had around 120 of these creations??? If you’re heading to Memphis be sure to check out the exhibition

But perhaps we should look at the more stylised versions. Springing to mind is Yves Saint Laurent, the pioneer of the high fashion jumpsuit in the 70s. Ms Stella McCartney loves a jumpsuit and her Spring ‘09 collection is sure to delight with some stunning onesies in soft silks and colours.

Whether it’s a jumpsuit, a onesie or a playsuit, be sure that your wardrobe houses one this season. They are versatile, decision minimal and can be dressed up or down. For that late lafternoon beverage in the sun, lose the plain ole’ flip flops and vamp it up with your calf wraping gladiators  or some sassy heels for the evening affair.

The trend is laid back sexiness. The legs of the outfits can be long and languid, or harem-like; check out Katie Holmes’ new range. Or for the short all-in-ones, go for the relaxed and rompy, playful feel. Whichever you choose wear it with style. Avoid the floral prints in the short onesies unless you care to channel the preschooler look. As a piece of advice, make sure there’s plenty of room from your waist down to the inside leg as any unsightly riding up into “certain places” will kill the look completely… Oh and always allow for plenty of bathroom time…it’s all got to come off…
